Balance the Scale

BEFORE YOU READ: This poem is part of my “Junk Poetry” collection. Poems in this collection are intended to be read aloud, like slam poetry, for the words to truly come alive.

Fueled by envy, a hatred was born,

Brought forth by two serpents in friendly form.

With peaceful eyes each played their part,

Two malevolent actors skilled in their art.

But behind the curtain, lay a shadowed retreat,

Where the toxic duet coiled a plan of deceit.

Venomous renegades composed tales so vile,

Each hidden carefully behind the veil of a smile.

A creeping unease whispered a warning bell,

Yet I brushed aside what my intuition did tell.

Hushed was the scheming of their devious plot,

And oblivious was I, choosing to perceive it not.

The insidious alliance of this duplicitous pair,

Easily fooled authorities with egos to spare.

Within the den of power, where wisdom should reside,

Simple minds held authority, easy to misguide.

Lemmings of ignorance and self-perceived clout,

Ruled a garden of intellect where blooms rarely sprout.

Wrapped in glory, they watched their treachery unfold,

Satiated by tales woven, their false narrative told.

Two smirking figures, illusions brought to an end,

Wicked. Covetous. Vicious. False friends.

Stripped of distractions, the ruse now laid bare,

Only then could I see what had always been there.

The fangs I thought hidden, were in plain sight,

Glimmering in the sun and waiting to strike.

With youth’s reflection, the selfish seeds I’d once sown,

Grew tall with time, as debts to atone.

In time’s mirrored lens they too shall see,

How vengeful fate confronts an errant deed.

The retribution due for each reckless misstep,

Will track a soul down to ultimately collect.

The lesson of consequence is justice will prevail,

And though time may pass, Karma will balance this scale.
